Travel Well & Travel Green with New Travel Zip Pouches

At bambu we create sustainably designed and responsibly produced products for the home. And on the go. Increasingly, we find ourselves away from home. We lead busy lives, seemingly always on the move.

So we have designed a new series of products that are intended to hit the road with you.  From utensils such as our Cork & Spork, Out N About, and Hemp Utensil Set, to our Urban Key Ring, we have created original products that go where you go.

We have extended our line of eco textiles to create the latest travel-related additions to the bambu range of sustainable products is our new Travel Zip Pouches. These multi-purpose travel cases are available in two sizes and made from three different, natural and eco conscious materials. Select from Hemp Denim, Cork Fabric, or our Organic Cotton Stripe.

Travel cases made from eco friendly fabrics designed by bambu

We have created a special Hemp Denim fabric that combines hemp with organic cotton. The hemp fades over time like well worn jeans. Hemp has 8x the tensile strength and 4x the durability of other natural fibers. It is mildew resistant and anti-microbial, making it an excellent fiber for the outdoors and life on the road.

Our Cork Fabric pattern is new this year. We call it 'strata' for it's subtle stripping pattern. It is super durable and also washable.

The Organic Cotton Stripe is the newest of our natural fiber textiles. Also referred to as Hickory Cloth. It has quite a history we uncovered. From the 1920's to the 1950's it was chiefly used for the manufacturing of work clothes. We often call it a 'railroad stripe.'

These are proudly made with a lot of care and attention to details. All are fully lined with our hemp denim fabric, designed with a gusset for extra roominess and finished with top quality YKK zippers and a cork fabric pull.

"We surveyed the market, and found lots of plastic and nylon options, but these are often unlined and poorly made. There was certainly room for a well constructed, carry-all that wasn't gender specific, and wasn't made from plastic," says designer and co-founder, Rachel Speth. "We have never referred to bambu as a bamboo company. And these new Zip Pouches in eco-conscious fabrics certainly represent that idea."

Soft, roomy and washable, these are a nice alternative to hard travel cases. A quick check at what's in my Large Striped Cotton reveals the following:

  • Two pens
  • Keys
  • Business Cards
  • Phone Charger
  • Phone power cord
  • Bank Security Device
  • Cork & Spork (naturally!)
  • USB

All neatly contained with room for more.

The large travel pouch (8" x 5") sells for $14 and the smaller version (6" x 4") sells for $12 on bambuShop and at selected retailers. Even if you're only traveling across town, these Travel Zip Pouches make a great eco friendly travel case.
