The Good Food Awards celebrates the kind of food we all want to eat. And the kind of food that a committed few are able to create.
Quite simply, The Good Food Awards honors food that is tasty, authentic and responsible. Seems like three good and important attributes of good food, and certainly something we can get behind.
At bambu we love good food too. Handcrafted foods go beautifully with our handmade trays, bamboo plates, specially designed bamboo cutting boards, organic tools, and beautiful serving pieces. And by being a partner, we support responsible food production.
bambu is once again a proud sponsor of this exceptionally delicious event. No mass production food here. Only delectable foods created with love. Or as Michael Pollan states, 'food made with soul.'
Judgement Day. Before the Awards......there is the judging. And before the judging, there is a lot of committed hours to making delicious cheeses, desserts, ales, coffees, preserves, oils and chocolate - dozens of sweet toppings and heavenly sauces. Oh, to be a judge...would be a dream for many.
Maura Sell is one of this year's cheese judges. Maura is a bonafide foodie and a self-proclaimed recovering cheesemonger. And she is also the Sales Director here at bambu. At this year's judging she and the panel judged cheeses from the Southern United States. Eighteen (18) different blind entries - 4 hours of tasting and comparing just these 18 cheeses. All delicious and all worthy of judging.
We may not be able to call this judging grueling. But it was competitive. And results are in. The 2014 Finalists are listed here. In the cheese category, among the finalists are two cheeses from Blackberry Farm. Their new Downer Brown is a sheep cheese washed in beer. The best of two worlds come together. This cheese is going to the finals!
Cheeses that meet the criteria for entry are made using good animal husbandry, without the use of hormones, and without the use of herbicides and pesticides on the pastures. And true to the tenets, tasty and authentic too.
Winners will be announced on January 16, 2014 in San Francisco. On January 18, 2014, Good Food Award-winning products will be showcased at a 30,000-person public marketplace that attracts food folks from around the country at the Ferry Building. The annual SF awards that attracts the attention of food folks from around the country.
We are pleased to be a part of the event again this year. That good food will be served up on our All Occasion Veneerware bamboo plates. The elegant disposable plate made from certified organic bamboo.
Here is a video of last year's event...deliciously wonderful. Special thanks to Jonathan Fong for capturing the day with his camera and good eye. Now we move on to January....bring on the goodness......
