Portland, OR - bambu LLC announced today that the company has been recognized as a 'Pioneer' in the USDA Biopreferred Program. The USDA BioPreferred® Program celebrates the 10th Anniversary of the certification and voluntary labeling initiative, and has recognized Bambu as a BioPreferred Program Pioneer to show appreciation for businesses like Bambu that showed faith in our mission. This badge signifies the company's long-term commitment to using renewable materials, reducing our reliance on petroleum, supporting the bioeconomy, and bettering the planet through innovation.
Bambu is one of 500 pioneers to be highlighted on the USDA Biopreferred website and in upcoming social media posts. "We realized the importance of this program very early on and jumped in to certify our products and lead by example," shared, bambu President and CEO, Jeffrey Delkin. "Among the 500 pioneers, we were number 50. And we recently expanded our biobased certification to now include our bamboo cutting boards."
Bambu took the early steps to earn certification for our biobased products and helped grow this country's bioeconomy and establish the BioPreferred Program as the premier government authority to verify biobased product claims. Currently, the BioPreferred Program Catalog lists more than 16,000 qualified products in over 200 categories, with more than 5,000 earning certification.

About the USDA BioPreferred Program and Certified Biobased Product label
The Biopreferred Program is a USDA-led initiative that assists the development and expansion of markets for biobased products. The BioPreferred Program is transforming the marketplace for biobased products through two initiatives: mandatory purchasing requirements for Federal Agencies and Federal contractors and voluntary product certification and labeling.
Biobased products span a diverse range of applications, such as lubricants, cleaning products, chemicals and bioplastics. The USDA Certified Biobased Product label communicates a product's biobased content. Expressed as a percentage, biobased content is the ratio of non-fossil organic carbon (new organic carbon) to total organic carbon in a product. New organic carbon is derived from recently-created materials. The total organic carbon in a product consists of new organic carbon and old organic carbon that originates from fossil carbon materials, such as petroleum, coal, or natural gas. More than 3,500 products have earned the USDA Certified Biobased Product label.
