Lunar New Year begins February 17, 2026, welcoming the Year of the Horse—and more specifically, the Fire Horse. In the Chinese zodiac, the animal is only part of the story. Each year also carries one of five elements—wood, fire, earth, metal, water—which adds a kind of “weather pattern” to the animal’s character.
Horse energy is about movement, momentum, and independence—an aversion to being boxed in, and a preference for learning by doing. The Horse is often associated with the qualities of hard work, bravery, and resilience.
The Fire element incorporates heat, intensity, and courage.
The spirit we feel is that aliveness matters: the courage to move, the humility to pause, and the wisdom to keep what’s meaningful as we pick up speed.
For a lot of us, that “Horse” quality shows up in a familiar way: not the big dramatic leap, but the quieter decision to keep moving—especially when things are imperfect, uncertain, or unfinished. It’s the kind of progress that doesn’t always look like a breakthrough. Sometimes it looks like another lap. Another conversation. Another attempt. A small reset and then—forward again.
There’s something comforting in that framing. Not because movement solves everything, but because it reminds us we’re allowed to be in motion without having it all mapped out. We can carry intention and curiosity, even while we’re still figuring it out.
