Supporting the Future: Our Commitment to Giving Back

Supporting the Future: Our Commitment to Giving Back

At Bambu, giving isn’t just a seasonal activity—it’s part of who we are. Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of supporting and learning from a wide range of non-profit partners. Some are grassroots initiatives driven by passionate communities, while others are global organizations backed by rigorous science and legislative action. Whether the focus is climate resilience, wildlife protection, food and water security, or indigenous and local community welfare, these groups inspire us with their work and dedication.

1% For The Planet

We’ve involved our teams in Oregon and China in hands-on efforts that matter—projects that connect people with the land, water, and ecosystems we all depend on. Team members identify and select organizations that match their interests, and Bambu donates to the cause! We have also contributed volunteer hours and product support to several projects.

Much of our giving is channeled through the 1% for the Planet network of verified environmental groups. As a member, we commit to at least 1% of sales to selected organizations. A few of those are listed below.

We’ve been long-time supporters of The Nature Conservancy since our college days. With a focus on science and on-the-ground action, The Nature Conservancy works around the world to protect nature so that both people and nature can thrive for generations to come.

Supporting Urban Biodiversity

Habitat Garden is one project led by The Nature Conservancy, local government, and the residents in Shanghai to convert small, often degraded urban spaces into “habitat gardens” planted mainly with native species. These micro-greenspaces improve urban biodiversity, provide small refuges for wildlife, and create more pleasant, climate-resilient community areas for residents.

Bambu has been a supporter of this project for several years. Nearly 30 Habitat Gardens will have been created in Shanghai alone, aligning with the city's 2035 master plan to enhance tree cover, improve air and water quality, and better adapt to climate change.

Regenerative Ocean Farming

One of the initiatives we’re most excited about in 2025 is supporting the rise of regenerative aquaculture. Coastal regions are often at the frontlines of climate change, and regenerative ocean farming offers a unique solution: revitalizing local economies while helping heal the planet.

GreenWave is leading the way in this new “blue economy.” Their mission is to train ocean farmers to cultivate seaweed and shellfish—crops that clean the water, capture carbon, and sustain coastal communities. By 2030, their goal is to help farmers bring 10M lbs of seaweed to market. By connecting small ocean farmers with buyers and distributors, GreenWave is creating a vertical model that scales impact economically and environmentally.

Protecting Lands and Waters

Wild Salmon Center starts with a simple idea: protect the world’s 'salmon strongholds'—the last, best wild salmon rivers—so salmon can thrive. Their stronghold approach focuses on safeguarding high-quality habitat and managing fisheries in ways that protect wild salmon diversity.

But, the payoff is much bigger than salmon: healthy salmon rivers help safeguard food security, species biodiversity, and climate resilience, creating a ripple effect that supports whole watersheds—and the communities and cultures tied to them.

Eliminating Plastic

Plastic Pollution Coalition works to stop plastic pollution before it starts—by helping people understand the problem, making it easier to choose reusables over single-use, and pushing for smarter policies that reduce plastic at the source. The bigger benefit is simple: less plastic means cleaner waterways and oceans, healthier communities, and fewer toxins circulating through the places (and food webs) we all depend on.

Why We Give

Supporting organizations like GreenWave, Wild Salmon Center, The Nature Conservancy, and others, reflect our belief that business can be a force for good. By investing in innovative solutions and protecting vital ecosystems, we hope to contribute to a future where nature and communities flourish side by side.
